Atlantic Canadians suffer the highest rates of energy poverty in the country, said a report published by a Canadian public policy think tank.
The Fraser Institute said one in four Atlantic Canadian households live in energy poverty, meaning ten percent or more of their spending is for electricity, home heating fuel and gasoline.
On the launch of the Deep Retrofit Accelerator in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI), ReCover Co-founder and Executive Director, Emma Norton, was interviewed by CTV News Atlantic in Charlottetown. In the interview, Norton talks about deep retrofit, why it matters for Atlantic Canada, and ReCover's role.
In the interview, Norton is joined by Dr. Kuljeet Grewal, Assistant Professor at UPEI, and one of the expert speakers at the launch event in PEI.
The ReCover Initiative will be launching the Atlantic Canada Deep Retrofit Accelerator in all four Atlantic Canada provinces between October and November 2024.
This October, the ReCover Initiative will be launching the Atlantic Canada Deep Retrofit Accelerator and facilitating roundtable discussions in Atlantic Canada.
The launch event is open to anyone interested or passionate about sustainability. Through the roundtables, ReCover will interact with and obtain insights from building owners and professionals in the building sector that will help us develop programs to meet their deep retrofit needs.

July 18, 2024 – Halifax/Kjipuktuk, NS – The ReCover Initiative, a non-profit start-up in Nova Scotia, has been awarded $17.5million by the government of Canada to implement the Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI) and Greener Neighbourhoods Pilot Program (GNPP) in Atlantic Canada between 2024 and 2027.
