The ReCover Initiative (ReCover) was founded in 2020 with a mission to develop deep retrofit solutions that respond to the climate crisis at speed and scale. We achieve our mission through research and development, programs and services to building owners, and capacity-building activities for industry.
As the deep retrofit accelerator for Atlantic Canada, we are creating alliances to transform the building sector in Atlantic Canada.
We aim to develop deep retrofit solutions that respond quickly and effectively to the climate crisis. ReCover will do this by providing research and development, programs and services to building owners, and capacity-building activities to industry.
Our vision is to deep retrofit older buildings in Atlantic Canada into healthy, resilient, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible spaces. We aim to prioritize upgrades to existing structures over demolition and new construction.

ReCover offers consultation, including information on financing resources and rebate programs, to guide them through their deep retrofit process. We focus on deep retrofit solutions for commercial, institutional, and multi-residential buildings ranging from low-rise to high-rise.
ReCover is not a deep retrofit delivery contractor; rather, we act as an unbiased third party by providing support and solutions to building owners.
ReCover works with commercial, institutional, and multi-unit residential building owners (MURBs) to identify, optimize, and implement deep retrofits.
We undertake research and product development for industry. We create opportunities to transfer knowledge on deep retrofits with existing industry partners, youth, and underrepresented communities.
We engage and collaborate with Indigenous communities and equity-deserving groups, including African Nova Scotians, to promote deep retrofit initiatives and address socio-economic disparities in these communities.
We are funded by NRCAN, the Trottier Family Foundation, the Echo Foundation, the McConnell Foundation, and the Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact (HCi3) Fund.
Our headquarters is in Nova Scotia. We acknowledge that we are in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People.
